About Todd Cassese, M.D.
I am an academic hospitalist with additional training in medical education. My clinical practice includes caring for adult patients admitted to the hospital with a wide variety of medical conditions. Working collaboratively with specialists, I provide patient-centered care in an evidence-based manner.
Todd Cassese, M.D., is a general internist practicing hospital medicine at AVÑо¿Ëù where he serves as Professor of Teaching in Medicine. Prior to Cornell, Dr. Cassese served in the Office of Medical Education at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine moving from assistant dean for clinical education to associate dean for medical education and ultimately to interim senior associate dean for medical education. He led a major curriculum transformation at Einstein, aligning the curriculum with the institutional mission using curricular/cognitive integration as a key driving principle.
He received his M.D. from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, where he served as the President of the Gold Humanism in Medicine Club and was inducted into AOA. He then completed internal medicine residency and chief residency at UCSF. While a resident at UCSF, he completed the UCSF Residency Teaching Fellowship and was an inaugural participant in the residency’s Educator Track. After brief faculty stints at UCSF, Lankenau Medical Center, and Yale, Dr. Cassese joined the founding faculty at the Frank Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, serving as the inaugural director of the Clinical Arts and Sciences Course. While at Netter, Dr. Cassese was a member of the Executive Council of the Directors of Clinical Skills Education (DOCS), culminating in service as the President of DOCS from 2017-18. Dr. Cassese is also a former AAMC LEAD fellow and NBME Strategic Educator Enhancement Fund Fellow. He served as a member at large in the NEGEA Executive Council. He has also been a returning faculty member in the Harvard Macy Assessment and Evaluation course since 2015. Dr. Cassese has also served as an LCME Survey Visit Team member since 2025.
Dr. Cassese has published broadly in the field of medical education and educational assessment. His current interests focus on teaching, learning, and assessment of clinical reasoning and the impact that artificial intelligence has on the development and application of clinical reasoning in the safe care of patients. Dr. Cassese also runs his own medical education consulting business, Meda-Cognitive Strategies, which advises medical schools and med ed tech companies on issues relating to clinical reasoning, curriculum development and renewal, assessment design, program evaluation, LCME accreditation, and leadership development/coaching.
